History

The first documented reference to "Iron Gate House" was as far back as 1519, when Jan Stastny owned the building.

It is believed that the building’s name was inspired by the Old Testament account of Samson carrying off the Gaza city gates to the top of the mountain, as depicted on the original crest at the front of the building. Over time, however, Goliath, David’s nemesis, replaced Samson. Until recently it was believed that nothing of the original façade, which had been mentioned in ancient documents, remained; however, during the restoration of the facade facing Michalska Street, a painting of the house crest was discovered and restored. The original gothic structure underwent a major reconstruction in the 16th century, with the Baroque period and Classicism gradually contributing to the addition of loggias and balconies; however, the most prominent feature is a tower, which is significantly higher than the building itself.

The Junior Suites Royal are decorated with frescoes or wooden painted ceilings from 14th - 16th century. The average Junior Suite Royal is 40 sqm (430 sqf).

De Luxe One Bedroom Suite

The One Bedroom Suites are built for 2 up to 4 people. All the rooms have separate bedroom and living room. The average One Bedroom Suite size is 50 sqm (540 sqf).

Royal One Bedroom Suite

The Royal One Bedroom Suites are also decorated with frescoes or wooden painted ceilings from 14th - 16th century. Bathroom in most cases are equipped with Jacuzzi. Our "Duplexes" - suites on two floor levels give the chance to use even two bathrooms - one on each floor. Some other suites are in the attic, which gives the chance to romantic people who enjoy the view over the roofs of the Hundred-Spire Golden Prague. The average Royal One Bedroom Suite size is 65 sqm (700 sqf).

Family Suite

Our Family Suite is located in the attic with two separated bedrooms, one living room, and two bathrooms with wooden beams just over your head. Guests will enjoy large own Jacuzzi in this suite. The FamilySuite size is 81 sqm (870 sqf).

A romantic stay in our Tower Suite with XL Jacuzzi and accommodation in three floors in the tower offer stunning views of Prague Castle and Old Town picturesque rooftops. Thanks to the heart-shape romantic bedroom, outside terrace, three floors and narrow staircase this unique "nest" suite is more than convenient for unforgettable Honeymoon.
