A royal town since 13th century and one of the richest Czech towns of the Middle Ages. Some of this weath is still evident even today in the well preserved architecture.  One of the attractions of the city are catacombs underneath the Renaissance town hall. The town hall 76 m tall Black Tower offers magnificent views of the city and its surroundings. Also not to be missed is a Baroque pharmacy "U bileho jednorozce", a registered UNESCO monument.
The town is about 40 km south of Plzen near the Sumava mountains.
