History

The Old Town Square Hotel & Residence incorporates two adjacent histo-rical buildings, which are registered on the List of Prague's architectural monuments as well as on the UNESCO Monuments List.
One of the buildings, known as "U Lazara", housed a small private chapel on the fourth floor, is dated to the cusp of the 15th and 16th Centuries. This chapel contains the original wooden-beamed ceilings, ornamented with figural paintings and can be attributed to an unknown artist of the early Renaissance. At the end of 18th Century, the chapel was made defunct and its wonderful painted ceilings covered. However, thanks to this, the beauty of these ceilings was preserved. These spaces are not freely accessible to the public.

The neighbouring building contains a treasure of its own in the form of beautiful underground cellars, which date back to the late 12th century. The building was previously known as "U jednorožce", but today is known as a "Bílý konícek" ("Bílý konícek"). The architect Matej Rejsek, reconstructed the building in 1496 and added the renowned portal adorned with lilies and beautiful rib vaults at the entrance. According to legend, the stone-made portrait hanging from the centre of the vault is the artist's self-portrait. Today's façade dates latter half of the18th century.
A memorial tablet, which is situated on the outside wall of the building, reminds us that in 1848, this was the home of the famous composer - Bedrich Smetana´s academy of music.

Accommodation

Within Baroque interior, 2 double rooms, 5 junior suites and 3 apartments have been refurbished in contemporary style to a 5 * standard. Room sizes range from 55 to 100 m2. There is also the possibility to interconnect rooms and create larger suites. We offer short- as well as long-term stays. Individually designed suites benefit from work desks, satellite TV, direct dial phone, high-speed Internet connection, a safety deposit box, smoke detectors and a minibar. All bathrooms and toilets have under floor heating and Phillipe Starck Design Studio fittings. Majority of the bathrooms contain both, a tub and a shower, along with two washbasins.

Restaurants and bars

The hotel restaurant and bar, known as the Bily Konicek (the White Horse) is situated in the Romanesque cellars dating back to the 12th century. The restuarant specializes in international and czech fine dining cuizïne and has a seating capacity of 80 - 100 guests. After dinner there is a possibility to move into a small lounge, sip cocktails and dance the night away.
