Credit and debit cards
Credit and debit cards - such as Visa, Mastercard and Amex - are now widely accepted in most Prague shops, restaurants and petrol stations. Outside Prague you may still experience problems in smaller shops and it is still advisable to have some cash at hand.
Changing money
Travellers cheques in pounds sterling, US dollars and Deutschmarks can be exchanged at all banks and numerous exchange bureaux. Travellers cheques are also accepted by major hotels and large souvenir shops. Commission at banks (typically 2%) is much lower than at exchange bureaux, where the commission may be up to 6%. Some exchange bureaux charge no commission but the exchange rates are set such that they don't offer a good deal unless you change just a small sum.
